WHAT REBECCA SAYS

This is a fabulous product and is currently my TOP recommendation. (Updated November 2009.) When it first came out, there were just 2 types and now it comes in 4 versions, all of them - in my humble opinion - very good.

As many of you know, a couple of years ago I decided to start easing into liquid oils instead of softgels because I was amazed to learn how many capsules you'd have to take to get the same content as a spoonful of straight oil (14 capsules for every tablespoon!). My first step was Barleans cinnamon flavored flax oil, which I stirred into yoghurt and ate with berries for breakfast. It was wonderful.

And much as I still love the flavored flaxseed oils (which I still use and sell) the "Swirls" product line is a QUANTUM LEAP in the area of liquid omega 3 user-friendliness for those who like me cringe at the thought of, say, fish oil in their mouth. I can't guarantee everyone will like it, but I think I can guarantee most people who would not dream of taking flax oil off a spoon will love this product line.

Basically the Swirls look like a spoonful of fruit smoothie and as far as texture and taste goes, I have no problem at all taking it straight off the spoon. I have never yet done that with any oil, even the flavored ones. To give you an idea just how user-friendly these are, my 6-year old BEGS me for Omega Swirls of any flavor and my culinarily unadventurous husband likes them very well too.

Funny thing is, I have never in my life liked anything in "strawberry banana". So when I first tried swirls, I assumed I would hate it. I started with the Lemon Zest fish oil swirl accordingly. But I quickly burnt out on that (it's a fine product and I sensed no fishy aftertaste at all but in the long term I just did not personally like the lemon flavor very well). So I tried the strawberry banana flax again... and I actually like it very much now.

Then they brought out the Vegan Total Omega which I completely ignored until the even newer Chocolate Raspberry version put me back into taste-test mode and I sampled both. The vegan one is excellent and I think I like that at least as much as the strawberry banana one. Reminds me a little of the pomegranate flavored kefir I buy now and then. The chocolate one, well, Hershey's syrup it ain't but for a real-chocolate containing coverup for flaxseed & other oils you will be astonished at how good it is. It makes me think of the lingering flavor in my mouth after a chocolate with a light raspberry cordial.

This product is over a pound, so if you can find it at a local health food store you'll save yourself the shipping cost, though of course I'm very grateful if you buy it from me :-) Barleans' farm is based quite near me so if you ever see this product backordered, I can get it back in within 2 days.
