Disposable liners for Tranquileyes

$0.60 -- PAIR of single-use foam liners for use with Tranquileyes goggle.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These liners are a simple, sheer foam with a peel-off adhesive foam backing. They are large enough that they completely cover the moisture pads and wrap partway around the eye cushions. They are not made of the same foam as the regular moisture pads and are not as soft but are still quite comfortable.

REBECCA'S REVIEW

These disposable liners are not a tool for the "typical" Tranquileyes user but they may be an important aid for some special cases where it is not practical or not advisable to have the foam moisture pads and/or eye cushions directly against your eyelids or skin. Some examples of when these liners may be helpful:

  • If you use any greasy products (e.g. petrolatum/mineral oil ointments) in or around your eyes or on your eyelids. Using these liners prevents ointment from soiling the moisture pads. I think that this is probably going to be the most prevalent application of the liners amongst the "veteran" dry eye crowd.
  • If you just want to avoid the hassle of washing out the Tranquileyes moisture pads - say, while travelling.
  • If you use Thermoeyes heat treatment, the liners may be a nice addition while you've got the heat inserts in the goggle. I can't personally vouch for this one but I am told that the disposable liners make it all seem even warmer. I have no difficulty believing this because even without Thermoeyes, I found the liners to create a warmer sensation than the goggle on its own.
  • Possibly if you use Tranquileyes exclusively for lagophthalmos (that is, as a way to hold lids closed overnight) you may find the added bulk and tension improves lid closure. I think that the Tini Bikini is a better and obviously more economical product for that as it's washable, but if you are trying to address lagophthalmos AND any of the other factors comes into play (hassle factor or ointment use) then these could be useful.
It is important to note that by using these liners, you will lose the benefit of the moisture pads, because the adhesive backing of the liner will not let any moisture through. If you really need the added moisture, the only way you can do it is to moisten the liner itself. I did this by just dipping my fingers in water and then wetting the liners with my fingers. I found the foam more comfortable if it was wet but it can work OK either way.

Regarding the adhesive: Even if it's on the goggle all night it easily peels straight off the goggle, even the unlined foam - which is what I normally use - with no problem. My only issue with the adhesive is I found it tricky getting the backing off to expose the adhesive in the first place.  You have to be careful in order to avoid having it stick to itself or "roll up", but with a little practice it should get easier. One 'early adopter' found this quite difficult to manage and also had some issues with the edge of the foam sticking to hair (if it didn't stick down all the way onto the goggle).

I am looking forward to feedback from some of our "special-purpose" users and will update this listing as I learn more about how well they are working out for various types of uses.
