![]() New! Quartz$39.00 -- Clear foamless flexible silicone shield for eye protection while sleeping.MANUFACTURER'S DESCRIPTION Onyix (black) and Quartz (clear) are very soft flexible shields made from silicone. They were developed to help patients suffering from Sleep Apnea shelter their eyes from the drafts many C-PAP masks create. Unlike the tranquileyes goggle, Onyix & Quartz are foamless and seal against the skin. They are very lightweight and comfortable. Highly recommended for sleep and air travel. They get pretty steamy when you've had them on for awhile so although they do not hold eyelids down the way Tranquileyes can, they acts as an excellent moisture chamber. Onyix is black and Quartz is clear. The kit comes with one shield, one microfiber cleaning cloth, manual, packaged in stainless steel container. Made in the U.S.A. Latex free. REBECCA'S REVIEW The latest from the makers of Tranquileyes... Onyix and Quartz are proving to be an important product for several special night eye protection needs. What's it like? The overall concept is closely similar to Tranquileyes, i.e. eyecups with a nose connector and the classic fabric wrap. Here is how it is different from Tranquileyes:
So it's basically a stripped-down but very comfy well-designed shield. Who are the Onyix/Quartz products best suited for? Here's my list so far of the types of patients I would see as good candidates for an Onyix/Quartz:
Now, specifically for Quartz, add these folks:
Potential drawbacks? As with any night eyewear item, tolerance is going to vary, especially if you have never worn any kind of sleep mask or goggle. As with all EyeEco products, we offer a full money-back guarantee in case it doesn't work out. Those who don't like it will probably be those for whom the edges of the silicone are not as comfortable as the Tranquileyes foam or those who really need the extra moisture and/or the pad securing their lids in place. On the other hand, those most likely to be successful are those motivated to have something very low profile or who cannot tolerate a foam liner. I think this product is going to be very good for quite a lot of people in practice but it may take some trial and error. Please, when you try this, I would really, really appreciate it if you would write a review here to explain what your need was and how well this product did or didn't meet it, so that others with very specific needs can learn whether it's likely to suit them and how it compares to other night protection products you have used. Thanks in advance! Note Apr 2010: When I first tried Onyix last fall I did not like it as much as Tranquileyes for my personal use. I didn't like the feel of the silicone edges on my skin - preferred the foam. Recently however I hauled it out of the drawer and tried again and now I am finding I really love it. I wake up in the morning and the inside of it is dripping wet! (Your mileage may vary... climate, humidity in the room, etc etc etc.) It leaves some indentations on my face but these disappear by the time I've showered. CAUTION OINTMENT USERS! I have had a report of permanent clouding on the lens of this goggle after ointment got on it. This is not confirmed in testing yet but I want to caution you that it's possible some ointments could cause some permanent clouding so that the goggle won't clear completely even when cleaned. Please be careful to avoid getting ointment on it. I'll update this description when I know more or if anything changes.
