The Onyix is a new,  very soft flexible shield made from silicone.  It was developed to help patients suffering from Sleep Apnea shelter their eyes from the drafts many C-PAP masks create.  Unlike the tranquileyes goggle, Onyix is foamless and seals against the skin.  It is very lightweight and comfortable.  Highly recommended for sleep and air travel.  Onyix is designed to shelter the eyes.  It isn't designed to create moist-heat and cold therapies like the tranquileyes goggle. 

Available in black.  The kit comes with one shield, one microfiber cleaning cloth, manual, packaged in stainless steel container. Made in the U.S.A.  Latex free.

The latest from the makers of Tranquileyes... I think this will prove to be an important product for several special night eye protection needs.

How do you pronounce it? Same as "onyx".... i.e., 'ON-ix'. Not to be confused with Onion Goggles!

What's it like? The overall concept is closely similar to Tranquileyes, i.e. eyecups with a nose connector and the classic fabric wrap. Here is how it is different from Tranquileyes:

• The eyecups are made of silicone - slick, soft, thin and flexible; enough to be worn directly against the face without discomfort.
• There is no foam lining, so a) no added moisture; b) the eyecups fit right against the orbital bone; and c) there is no added padding that would help hold lids down.

So it's basically a stripped-down but very comfy well-designed shield.

Who is it best suited for? I'm sure this will evolve as I get more experience with it but for starters, here are some types of dry eye patients I could see as good candidates for an Onyix:

• C-PAP users.
• People whose skin does not tolerate the Tranquileyes foam. (Rare, but it happens.)
• Those who want night protection but with minimal bulk, for example those who find sleep masks too large/bulky.
• Those who want night protection with minimal hassle. No parts to wash, no waiting for a mask to air dry.
• And of course... dry eye product junkies (you know who you are!)

Potential drawbacks? As with any night eyewear item, tolerance is going to vary, especially if you have never worn any kind of sleep mask or goggle. We offer a full money-back guarantee in case it doesn't work out. Those who don't like it will be those for whom the edges of the silicone are not as comfortable as the Tranquileyes foam. (I'm in that group, incidentally.) Those most likely to be successful are those motivated to have something very low profile or who cannot tolerate a foam liner. I think this product is going to be very good for quite a lot of people though.
