PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Eye Spa Pad is a simple but effective concept. It
consists of a soft cotton pad inside which is a thin hydrogel pack.
An adjustable strap with velcro at the ends holds it securely in
place, or alteratively you can simply lay it over your eyes while
reclining. You can also chill it for a soothing effect.
From The Dry Eye Remedy, Chapter 8,
"Your Home Eye Spa": "I use a heat
pad, called the Eye Spa Pad, that conforms to the shape of the eye;
pop it in a microwave for 30 seconds, and it will stay hot for five
minutes – sufficient time to loosen the glands, step one in the
cleaning process. The pad also has a soft cotton exterior, which is
important since you will be placing it on your face, and the
exterior is washable, which is important because you will sweat
under the heat, and the pad can become dirty after a number of
uses. The pad can also be cooled – just put it in the refrigerator
– so that you can use it to soothe red, inflamed, irritated eyes.
It's thus a multi-use piece of gear – one that you can re-use time
and again."
REBECCA’S REVIEW
Overall assessment: This is a an
affordable, comfortable, convenient heat pack.
Personal experience: Like any heat
sources used on the eyelids for chronic meibomian gland dysfunction
and related conditions you must be very careful not to overheat it.
In my microwave it takes about 30-35 seconds but that will
obviously vary by microwave. I found that it stays warm plenty long
enough do do the job. And one of the nice things I noticed about
this is if it is too hot you'll notice it right away since a fair
amount of it is resting on the skin away from the eye sockets
(forehead, temples). As a bit of a connoisseur of heat packs for
the eyes I will also mention that for me personally, this works
best if I lay my fingertips on it gently to help it touch my lids
more closely. That will no doubt vary from person to person based
on differences in one's facial bone structure.
Rosacea patients take note:
As you can see from the picture, the spa pad is quite
large - and for many people that is a good thing (feels very
nice!), however, for some people with facial rosacea, and
especially if they have a fairly small face, it is possible
that having the heat pad extend over much of their skin can trigger
the rosacea. A rice baggy (ours or homemade) may be more practical
because it's loosely filled and so you can concentrate it in one
part and pack that right on your lids. Also feel free to call
our office for ideas about other alternatives. Some people who want
"lids-only" heat use the Thermoeyes heat packs or EyeFeel
disposable single-use warmers.
